Dr. Sherif Elhady is a Board Certified orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the oldest and most prestigious specialty board in dentistry. It was founded in 1929 with the goal of elevating the standards in orthodontics and ensuring that the public is informed of those standards and protected against unqualified practitioners.
There are four main objectives outlined in the ABO mission statement:
- 1. Evaluating the knowledge and clinical skills of graduates of accredited orthodontic programs.
2. Re-evaluating knowledge and skills through recertification exams at regular intervals.
3. Supporting the development of graduate, postgraduate and continuing education programs in orthodontics
4. Promoting and encouraging orthodontic expertise worldwide.
Before an orthodontist can become board certified, they must pass rigorous written and clinical examinations, plus a comprehensive review of their credentials. This process typically takes 5 to 10 years to complete. Orthodontists who achieve board certified status are required to update that certification every 10 years.
